Finnish Berry Pie (Marjapiirakka)

Finns love berries - and there are so many yummy berries in Finland! This berry pie is delicious and easy to make.
The crust does not need pre-baking and you just mix the ingredients and add them.
Feel free to use other dairy product instead of creme fraiche. I used that because it's consistency is quite similar to Finnish "kermaviili", a Nordic type of lightly sour cream.
Finnish kermaviili is a lot lighter (10-12 % fat and there are even low-fat versions) than creme fraiche (about 28% fat).
You can use also natural, unsweetened Greek yogurt instead of creme fraiche. Yogurt is about 10% fat so it's about the same as kermaviili.
This time I tested that the recipe works also with creme fraiche.

I got this recipe from my friend and ever since I have been in love with this pie. It's both sweet and crunchy - just perfect!
No need to make a vanilla sauce, this pie has got the sauce in it!
2/3 cup butter, softened/melted
½ cup sugar
1 egg
1 ¼ cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup berries, fresh or frozen (pick your favorites!)
¾ cup creme fraiche (or Greek yogurt or sour cream)
1 egg
3 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla sugar
Butter
Breadcrumbs
Grease the pan with butter and sprinkle evenly with breadcrumbs
Melt or soften the butter
Mix it with sugar
Add the egg and mix
Mix the baking powder with flour
Add the flour while mixing
Spread the dough on the pan, sprinkle extra flour and spoon to pat if the dough sticks to your spoon too much
Add berries on top, spread evenly
Mix the filling: creme fraiche/yogurt and egg, add sugar and vanilla
Add the filling on top of the berries
Bake in 365 °F about 40 min.
A tip: Check from the bottom of the pie if it’s ready! You will notice a color and texture difference if using a transparent glass pan. Also the filling will be solid.
If the crust gets too brown, lower the temperature of the oven and add minutes.
